It’s soooo hard because I feel Mandy had more of a successful film career, but Hilary had more of a successful music career 👀 but my guess is Mandy wouldn’t sell as many tickets as Hilary if she went on tour today.
ahh thank you for the shoutout, those Prada pants are too good. And Landmark -> Vroman's pipeline is a pro move, although maybe the Vroman's bar should be the pregame spot? Considering they have a cocktail named Margarita Atwood they must have Campari too?!
I guess I defer to las culturistas here. Are we bringing Lizzie McGuire out on stage? No, we’re bringing Mandy Moore out to sing an iconic song from a movie where she plays a terminally ill teenage bride.
Each time I read a new Hobbies by Amanda Dobbins I have the stunning sensation of feeling my worldview rapidly expand in real time. I feel like Samantha Morton walking around with Tom Cruise after they get flushed down the milk toilet in Minority Report
The real trick with the AMC Burbank is the parking structure across the street next to the Wood Ranch. Free and never full even when other structures are.
You're sleeping on the parking lot at Burbank 6, a high easiest parking to ehh screen/projection ratio, though an amazing place to like, catch Barbie for the second time, if you will.
The last time I went to the Burbank 6 was for Beau Is Afraid (positive) and someone was set up in the back row with a laptop open fully rolling Zooms — and participating, like screen-on “just to add to what Kevin said” vibes — while the movie was going. Don’t disagree about the parking tho
This just happened to me at the AMC on 42nd (I simply can’t return), except she was in the middle of the theater, filming the screen and then sending it to different groups of people via WhatsApp. The movie was Matthew Shear’s Fantasy Life (?????).
It’s Hilary which feels insane because at one point Mandy was in conversation with the likes of pop star TITANS like Britney, Christina, etc (I saw her open for NSync, not casual). But Hilary benefitted from entering the scene a bit later and getting her own shine! Just some musings, as always, thank you for your thoughts!
Amanda, long time listener; first time caller, I love this substack as another place to hear from you without the confines of the pods. I fit nicely in the generation Mandy Moore (but also a Hilary Duff person because I’m always going to be interested in people who share my name). It’s crazy to me that Mandy’s musical career has been lost to time (I mostly blame that POS first husband of hers) because it felt huge in 1999-2004 compared with HD’s couple hits. But what I really love about this space is more real estate for your Real Real purchases/addictions (not one to judge). Pictures of stuff would be fun too! Speaking of real estate, feels like a missing subject from this stack. Or maybe architecture digest and home decor. Thanks for writing.
Oh no is 1981 not considered elder millennial anymore? I’ve always hated Alamo Drafthouse too. The only food smell at a movie theater should be popcorn
As a born and raised LA / La Canadian, IIRC the UA8 was renovated in 2012-2013 (my senior year of high school) so it's indeed been "many years" since the last update...
Also, re: Americana parking, if you're feeling open to a short walk and a mall pretzel (and not claiming Rick Caruso as your man), you could hypothetically park by the JC Penney entrance at the Galleria. I'm pretty sure it takes the same amount of time to walk over as it does to navigate the 100+ floors of Americana parking.
Why was I not polled? Why am I being silenced?
Ok big dog here you go: who has more credits in your DVD collection, Hilary Duff or Mandy Moore?
Sean, we need an answer to this plz
I say some version of "ma'am this is a Wendy's" on almost every episode of Bandsplain - I stand with you
The Americana parking lot is god tier considering how vertigo-inducing the Grove is. Also, thank you for making a substack just for my interests only.

Did not know the Vroman’s bar had cocktails but I will investigate!!!!!

Thank you Dobbinsfan123
amanda it's fun reading your writing!! i love an obscure ranking system.
Hilary was on Table Manners and Mandy wasn’t. What say you?

Surely it's Mandy Moore if for no other reason than This Is Us. (I have only seen one full episode of This Is Us.)
